Party treat poppers Summer is finally here!
Ok, so they dont actually pop, but they are modeled after the brittish version that do. (You can purchase these at most party stores, to the best of my knowledge).
This is an easy homemade version, all you need is...

Toilet paper rolls (one per popper)
Any small gifts and candies you want to put inside
Gift wrap to match the party theme
Ribbon (enough to tie each end of the poppers)
Tape

To make your poppers:
-Be sure to remove all stray pieces of paper from the cardboard roll, for some reason it is just nicer way!
-Cut wrapping paper into 6 inch by 8 inch pieces.
-Wrap paper around the tube and secure with tape. (The 6 inch side of the paper goes around the tube. The 8 inch side is the length, this will leave enough length on each end of the tube to tie them with ribbon.
-Tie one end of the tube with ribbon
-Drop all the goodies into the tube
-Tie the last end of the tube with ribbon also.

***If you are needing more than just a couple of poppers, I would ask friends and family to save their toilet paper tubes for you. Not only will it take less time to acrue, but imagine what they must be thinking as they wonder why on earth you want their T.P. tubes!

Summer is here and the kids are home singing their usual chant. "Mom I'm bored, Mom I'm bored, Mom I'm bored..." On and on it goes! Here are couple of ideas that might help at least slow that mantra down!

Into a plastic container pour about 1/4 cup tearless baby shampoo, if you have a lot of kids who will be playing, you may want to use more. Mix into the shampoo some powdered tempera paint until you have a medium density color. (You can find powdered tempera paint at most craft stores) Send the kids out into the yard and before running through the sprinkler they can paint themselves. This is non toxic and washes off easily. You could also use this mix to have them paint the outside of the sliding glass door, when they are done they can wash it off with the hose, and what do ya know, the kids are washing your windows!

Using fabric paints the kids can design their own summer t-shirts. They can put finger prints on the shirts and turn those prints into bees, ladybugs, flowers, catapillars, about anything they want.

What about the good old fashoined Kool-aid or lemonalde stand?

Older kids can earn an extra buck mowning lawns, washing cars or maybe even washing dogs! ( if any of the kids in my neighborhood are doing this I would be thrilled!)

When I was about 8 all the kids in the neighborhood got together and created a summer carnival with different booths, our roller coaster was a wagon ride down a hill, seems simplistic but I can't tell you how much fun we had!

For the younger kids it is a fun and extremely practical idea to have a picnic in your yard and invite all the neighborhood kids to come and bring a sack lunch. Provide the Kool-aid, the kids can all eat while an officer from your city tells them about stranger danger, and safety.

Well, I hope you all survive the summer and have a fabulous time doing so, please email me more fun summer activities!!
General
I hope to be able to ftp up pictures of the crafts soon, until then there is always the lovely scenery below! =)

I am the mom of two young boys who love to craft as much as I do. I believe that crafting is very beneficial to children in several ways. It gives them a structured way to unleash their creativity. The key word here is structured, I never want to wash food coloring finger paintings off a ceiling again!!! Dont ask how a 3 and 5 year old managed, I'm really not sure myself! It also gives them a feeling of competence when they have completed a craft, a feeling that "Yes I can do this, yes I am good at something." It is a fun way to help your child work on his or her dexterity and hand eye coordination with out turning on the play station, and can be very helpful in teaching younger children about following directions. The very best part though is that when you are crafting with your child, no matter what the project is, it is a special time for you and your child to be together and do something as a team.

Please email me if you have any craft ideas, suggesstions, questions or thoughts. I would love to hear from you, thanks for visiting!
